What We Offer: Psychological & Psychoeducational Assessments in Toronto

Whether you’re navigating attention issues, learning challenges, social difficulties, or emotional struggles, a psychological assessment can help uncover what’s really going on and what to do next. At ReFresh Psychotherapy, our licensed psychologists in Toronto provide comprehensive testing for both children and adults.

We specialize in a wide range of psychological and psychoeducational assessments including:

ADHD Assessment

Understand how attention, focus, and executive function may be impacting daily life

We provide ADHD testing for both children and adults. Our assessments use clinical interviews, cognitive tasks, and behaviour checklists toexamine attention span, impulse control, task management, and emotional regulation.

Autism Assessment

Get clarity around social communication, behaviour patterns, and sensory needs

Our autism assessments are available for all ages and include developmental history, parent/caregiver input, and standardized diagnostic tools. We also assess for autism in adults, especially those who may not have been identified earlier in life.

Psychoeducational Assessment

Identify learning strengths, challenges, and how best to support academic success

Psychoeducational assessments combine cognitive and academic testing to evaluate how a student thinks, processes information, and performs in the classroom. These assessments are commonly used to identify learning disabilities, support IEPs, and guide educational planning.

Gifted Testing

Assess cognitive strengths and eligibility for enrichment or accelerated programs

We conduct giftedness evaluations for school-aged children, including IQ testing and cognitive profiling. We also assess for twice-exceptionality (2e), where giftedness overlaps with ADHD, autism, or learning challenges.

Emotional & Behavioural Assessments

Understand patterns related to mood, behaviour, and emotional wellbeing

This type of assessment focuses on concerns like anxiety, depression, emotional reactivity, and behaviour challenges—helping clarify the cause of distress and identifying supports that can make a difference.

Other Assessments

In addition to ADHD, autism, and psychoeducational evaluations, we offer assessments that explore executive functioning, nonverbal learning, emotional regulation, school readiness, and complex or overlapping diagnoses. These can help clarify behavioural patterns, support learning plans, and guide next steps when challenges are harder to define.

From Assessment to Support -
What Comes Next?

After your assessment, our psychologists don’t just hand you a report – a feedback session walks you through findings in plain language: what they mean and don’t mean, and what we recommend. We can then work with you to provide treatment based on your assessment findings. We can also coordinate with referring doctors and other healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.

ADHD Skills and Emotional Regulation

For clients where ADHD or emotional regulation is a key finding, our ADHD Skills Program and DBT Skills Program offer structured, practical next steps – available for both children and adults – either as a bridge to therapy or as a complement to it.

Whatever the finding, our team of therapists can help coach and support you with learning the skills you need.

Not sure what you need?

If you’re unsure whether you need a psychoeducational evaluation, ADHD test, or autism spectrum assessment, start with a free 15-minute consultation. We’ll listen to your concerns and guide you toward the right type of assessment for your goals. Then we can work with you to put together a treatment plan for ongoing support.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Psychological Assessments

A psychological assessment is a personalized evaluation that may involve testing, interviews, and questionnaires. It’s designed to help you better understand cognitive, emotional, or behavioural concerns—and what steps to take next.
A psychoeducational assessment focuses on learning, memory, and academic performance. A psychological assessment looks more broadly at emotional wellbeing and mental health. We often combine both for a more complete picture.

If things feel harder than they should (at school, work, or home), an assessment can help. Common reasons include difficulty focusing, emotional overwhelm, school struggles, or questions about ADHD, autism, or learning challenges.

Yes. Our ADHD assessments for adults explore focus, organization, executive function, and emotional regulation. Whether you’re seeking a diagnosis, therapy support, or workplace accommodations, we’ll help you get clear next steps.

Yes. We offer autism assessments for adults who may not have been identified earlier in life. Many clients come in wondering if autism might explain lifelong patterns in social interaction, sensory needs, or emotional regulation.
